Day 94 | 4-3-12
My maternal grandparents. I wish I had a better quality of these photos.
My grandma would sometimes recall seemingly random moments. Once, she talked about how my grandfather detested the future spouses of his children. He was a quiet man, one who kept a stoic face while his scrutinies trashed and echoed in his head. Funnily enough, he allowed himself to say a few lines overflowing with dislike after the suitor left. Dude. He made fun of my dad asking, “Is he so poor that he couldn’t afford shoelaces?” haha apparently no shoelaces were the trend then. Anyway, no one was approved but, at the same time, no one was rejected. He allowed his children to choose who they wanted to marry.
I was also surprised to find out that my grandfather, who increasingly became bitter as I grew up, rarely lectured his children and was generally mellow. Even more shocking was that my easygoing grandmother was the strict one.
All these stories are captivating. There are more but I think I’ll save them for some other time. I do want to write them down someday though.

Day 93 | 4-2-12
I’m glad my youngest brother is getting back into the habit of reading. As of now, he’s enjoying Roald Dahl’s works. This kid might just grow to have the same dry humor as me.
Next, I want to introduce him to The Chronicles of Narnia books. Although I like the Harry Potter series, Narnia was my childhood. The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe was the first book that really left a deep impression on me.

Day 91 | 3-31-12
I hanged out with raindropsprelude, randomnessisagift, julian-shaun, inspirationfromboredom, …and most of my friends. It rained hard and I got a bit lost getting to the restaurant we were meeting at but overall it was nice to see them. We walked around the mall afterward and we caught up on things. I missed a lot.
Ah, we also went to Barnes and Noble. Of course I came out with a book. Edgar Allan Poe is just cool like that. Sure he scared me when I was a kid but he is brilliant.

Day 90 | 3-30-12
It’s pretty obvious now that I like this book. I normally borrow books from the library but I would then eventually find myself buying the ones I really enjoyed.

When my youngest brother saw this in Japantown, he immediately asked my mom to buy it because it had my name on it. Cute and all but now he calls me “Ate Strawberry.”

So I played sungka with Alec. I won in the end but, man, seeing this game to the very end took us three hours. Crazy kid wouldn’t admit defeat until he lost all his pieces.

Day 87 | 3-27-12
My parents’ birthday. When they said it was going to be a simple dinner, a whole table filled with food was not what I had in mind though I suppose I shouldn’t be so surprised. My family likes get-togethers and an abundance of food is a must. Great fun. Seriously. …I just made myself sound even more sarcastic. I really did have fun though.
I do feel bad that I didn’t get them anything for their birthday.
